THE COLOUR WHEEL
There are three magic colours, red, blue and yellow. Why are they magic? Because they cannot be created by mixing other colours! That’s why we call them the primary colours.
When two of the three primary colours are mixed together, they produce three secondary colours, purple, green and orange.
Colours that sit opposite each other on the colour wheel are called complementary colours. When placed next to each other, the contrast of these complementary colours increases and they become more vibrant. Many painters use this captivating technique.

CREATE YOUR COLOUR PALETTE
If you add Black and White to the three primary colours, Blue, Red and Yellow, you can make 12 new colours.

THE BUDDING ARTISTS’ HANDBOOK – GOUACHE AND ACRYLIC SPECIAL
To help parents cultivate their children’s creativity, Lefranc Bourgeois has created two complete handbooks about gouache and acrylic. These are the two types of paint most commonly used in schools.
Our handbooks explain the properties of each paint, and provide an easy method for learning the colours. They are designed to help both the young and the old to dive head-first into the world of colour. They even include activity sheets inspired by the world’s greatest artists, including Monet, Keith Haring and Vasarely.
